Winter Rules

Temporary local rules implemented during adverse weather conditions that allow golfers to improve their ball's lie in the fairway without penalty. Winter rules, also called preferred lies or lift, clean, and place, permit players to move their ball to a better position within a specified distance (typically one club length) in closely mown areas.
