A method of evaluating course difficulty by assessing conditions during actual play rather than theoretical course rating procedures. In-course rating considers temporary conditions, weather effects, and setup variations that affect playing difficulty. Understanding in-course rating helps golfers appreciate how conditions affect scoring and handicap calculations.
