Whiff

A complete miss of the golf ball during an attempted stroke, where the club passes through the air without making contact with the ball. A whiff counts as a stroke under the rules of golf, adding to the player's score even though the ball doesn't move. Whiffs typically occur due to nervousness, poor setup position, loss of balance, or taking one's eye off the ball during the swing.
